Great article Mike. Merchants that become successful are ones that are constantly testing things on their site. There are things that most people would be shocked to know if they did this or that, it would have a much bigger impact on conversions. There are always things we never think of for the longest time and once we do, we wish we thought of them much sooner. So always test, but always be thinking of what could make it better as well!

Mike,

Just catching up on my Reader and this caught my eye. I have been working with the Website Optimizer Team to try and better understand what the barriers are for clients using WO. We see pretty good adoption, but people don't actually run the experiment. I would be curious if you had feedback from working with clients on what the major struggles are in the testing process.

Mike,
It does go to show you that even though Google does test, test and retest accidents still do happen. http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/this-site-may-harm-your-computer-on.html

Some other good solutions for feedback and testing are www.getsatisfaction.com and www.crazyegg.com

I would also encourage everyone to not only test their store and their website but also run tests on their email marketing using AB testing. Almost all google email marketing software allows you to send multiple versions of your email campaign and show the results.
