Internet user's knowledge has really evolved over the years. 10 years ago, people didn't know things like that. However, now I think it is natural for most users to click on images as most companies make images like that one clickable. It has become a representation if you would say that those kind of images are always linked to something else. I agree with #1, user confusion.
