I don't disagree with you Scott, but I might not agree with you either. I don't think having multiple security assurances would backfire. Security assurances aren't like hot deals or special offers. They provide a meaning of trust to the consumer that is verifiable by a third-party. While I agree that one security badge and one industry badge (and BBB is legitimate in the eyes of many online shoppers) is enough, my focus on these in my article is that 31% of the top retailers didn't even include one, or included one that was so obscured by other elements that it was invisible. And having nothing, or visually nothing, is not enough.

I think having too many security assurances on an e-commerce site can hurt you. It makes it seem like you are trying to hard. "We're secure! Really! Look, we've bought these badges to prove it."

I think one security badge and then maybe adding an industry associate badge is enough. If there isn't an appropriate industry association, many people default the the BBB.

Merchant Account Pro, please share where you've been reading about security assurances. I'm curious as to why they think it doesn't matter or have results that show little benefit. For the moment I'll hold strong that security assurances are a necessary and beneficial addition to the page. Of course, they have to be done right. It won't help to have them in a place that's not visible.

I'm not so sure #3 is right, I have read a lot of information that contradicts this topic. From everything I have read, I'm not sure if it helps or doesn't do much good to have security logos on your site. You could always do a A/B test on your site to find out.
