Just thought I'd post a link to Jeanne Jenning's book The Email Marketing Kit over at SitePoint for people who are new to Email marketing. I used it when I first started and it has some great tips and techniques for maximizing your email campaigns.

Bernard,

We try to use inline css to cut back on the images and reduce the file size. It's the same principal that we use in designing our sites. Less images = faster load time. If you have to use images, keep them small in size and use jpegs. Most of the time, you're better off using a nice css-based template and filling your email with content. Then lead people to a nice landing pages where you have more freedom with image/file size.

Hope that helps!

Thanks guy, great article. I have recently started my first newsletter, and one thing I struggled with was whether I should embed images. I tried this, but found this resulted in huge e-mails, and the clients didn't like that. What's your feeling on this?

Here’s a quick excerpt: This is something you should pick up on very quickly when you start doing email marketing. Many email clients, Gmail for example, will not properly read css unless its inline.
